Driving Licence Requirements

The driving licence requirements in Zimbabwe state that you must have a full driving licence that is valid in your country of residence. It is also advised to have an international driver's license when travelling with your car hire in Victoria Falls and other places in Zimbabwe.


Zimbabwe Road Rules
General driving information, laws rules and regulations:

  • Driving in Zimbabwe is on the left hand side of the road.
  • Seat belts when driving a hire car in Zimbabwe are mandatory.
  • Drivers are to carry at all times while driving, a valid driver’s licence, registration documents and insurance documents (Car hire agreement).
  • You must obey police signals, stop at roadblocks and toll-gates and produce identification if asked to do so.
  • It is an offence to continue driving when a motorcade containing the President goes past, no matter which side of the road you are on. If you see the motorcade or hear sirens, pull off the road or onto the side of the road where possible.
  • At controlled intersections, motorists are required to yield to pedestrians crossing on a green light.
  • The general speed limit in Zimbabwe is 120 km/h on open roads and 60km/h in urban areas, but watch for signs.


Toll Gates
You will come across tolls along major roads going to and from cities/towns, the fees range from $1 for cars to $5 for lorries. It is best to carry some change with you when driving out of town.

Parking Information for Zimbabwe
You will not have any problems finding places to park. Check with your hotel before you book as most will have free parking available. All attractions have parking facilities with regular patrols. Please do not keep any valuables on display in your car. City centre’s will have parking lots and/or metered parking bays. Parking offenders will either be clamped or receive a parking ticket.

  • Bulawayo to Masvingo             280km (3 Hours)
  • Masvingo to Harare                  290km (3 Hours)
